England: Shadymoore

In Dorrington near Shrewsbury in 1931 Arthur Edward Oakley took on the lease of Lower Shadymoor Farm, part of the 2500 acre Netley Estate.  The same year Jim Jobe the founder of Jobe Valves Ltd. was born in Thames New` Zealand.

Seventy seven years later Mike Oakley grandson of Arthur had some problems with the Jobe ball valves he had recently installed with his new water system. David Jobe, Jims son, who was in the UK to attend the European Dairy Event at Stoneleigh made the trip to Lower Shadymoor Farm to sort things out.

Two years on the Jobe Topaz valves are still working perfectly and Mike who doesn’t pull any punches when things aren’t working as they should is very happy with the investment he made in the High Flow ball valves.

“I had seen Jobe Valves in a New Zealand Agricultural magazine” said Mike, so when the sales rep at Spunhill, his local rural store suggested Jobe Topaz Valves for the new water system he was installing Mike decided to go with the valves which had the capacity to keep up with his 500 thirsty dairy cows on the hottest of summer days.

The Oakley’s had the opportunity to purchase Lower Shadymoor Farm from the Estate in 1995. Mike and his wife Davina ably assisted by their sons Tom, Sam, Miles and Adam set about developing the farm into the showpiece that it is today. The farm is currently on track to produce 3.2 million litres of milk at 4.6 for fat and 3.4 for protein. This is supplied to cheese maker Joseph Heler in Cheshire.
